35-year-old Japanese volunteer joined the Ukrainian army

After a year of volunteering in Ukraine, 35-year-old Japanese Takao Tainaka decided to join the Ukrainian army to “defend Ukrainians.” The Ukrainian media Liga.net shared the story of a brave man. At the beginning of 2022, Tainaka lived in Japan, but when he learned about Russia’s war against Ukraine, he decided to come to Ukraine and help civilians. Although he knows neither Ukrainian nor English, Takao quickly found a common language with Ukrainians. As a volunteer, he went to different cities, including those on the front lines. “A lot of interesting stories happened to me here. I was under fire and saw battles between Ukrainians and Russians up close. Many times I thought I was going to die. I went through a lot of things, and it’s a miracle that I’m even alive today, Tainaka says.

Now man decided to join the Ukrainian army to protect Ukrainians. “I don’t regret anything. I believe in helping Ukrainians. I won’t regret it, even if it means my death. Everything is for the people of Ukraine,” Takao Tainaka told Liga.net.
