36 years ago on April 26, 1986, the worst disaster in the history of nuclear power generation happened. Reactor No. 4 of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine exploded. Radioactive material released from Chornobyl exceeded the atomic bombings of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki 400 times.

Back then, Ukraine wasn’t an independent state, so all decisions were made in Kremlin. And Kremlin decided to lie. The Soviets hid information about the scale of the disaster. They didn’t warn the world about impending catastrophe, they didn’t evacuate people, and organized 1 May celebrations instead. Human lives never meant anything to Moscow.

By silencing the Chornobyl disaster, Kremlin put the whole world on the brink of catastrophe. 36 years later, it is doing it again. In the first days of the full-scale war, Russian troops seized the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, threatening its operation. And even after being liberated from the Russian invaders, the Chornobyl NPP is still not safe, as Russian missiles fly over it. And so the whole world is not safe. Today we are commemorating all victims of the Chornobyl disaster, which affected many generations. And the world’s responsibility today is never let this happen again.
