48 nations urged the Russian Federation to immediately cease its armed assault against Ukraine at the UNESCO international assembly

48 nations backed Ukraine and urged Russia to immediately cease armed aggression at the MONDIACULT 2022 UNESCO international meeting in Mexico on cultural policy and sustainable development.

“Its obligations to UNESCO, including the 1954, 1970, and 1972 Conventions, are still being broken by Russia. We cannot watch while one nation tries to obliterate the culture and identity of another nation. We cannot consent to additional measures that are against the UNESCO Constitution and our basic principles. In order to prevent future injury and destruction to Ukraine’s natural, constructed, and mobile cultural heritage in all its manifestations, we demand that Russia promptly cross Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders and put an end to its aggression,” according to the joint statement.
