70 countries and institutions worldwide pledge over €1 billion to help Ukraine get through the winter

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna announced that 46 countries and 24 international organizations pledged €1 billion to help Ukraine to get through the winter. The funds were raised at a conference in Paris co-hosted by France and Ukraine.

“Russia has decided to methodically, systematically target critical civilian infrastructure, to plunge the Ukrainian people into cold and darkness. We have succeeded, thanks to the conference of this morning in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, to raise more than one billion euros of aid,” French President Emmanuel Macron said.

Of the total pledged, €415 million was earmarked for energy, €38 million for food, €25 million for water, €22 million for transport, €17 million for health care, with another €493 million still to allocate.

“This is a powerful signal to show the civilized world is supporting Ukraine,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told reporters in Paris.
