“A just peace cannot be dictated by others. It must be one which Ukraine itself considers justified.”

During the speech at the South African Institute of International Affairs in Johannesburg, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö stated Russia’s war in Ukraine has adverse global consequences. “That is very evident. Who the aggressor is, is also very clear,” he added. Niinistö noted that only Ukraine can decide to open peace talks.

“Peace should also be the objective in Ukraine. We know from history that to build a lasting peace, we need justice. A just peace cannot be dictated by others. It must be one which Ukraine itself considers justified,” stated the President of Finland.
