A teacher from Georgia raised $700,000 to help Ukraine by selling his mother’s wedding ring and a memorable prize

Teacher Lado Aphazawa from Georgia raised $700,000 to help Ukraine, News Georgia reported.

Lado Aphazawa, a teacher and laureate of the National Teachers’ Award and finalist of the Global Teacher Award in March 2022, said that he had sold a commemorative coin of international competition and a wedding ring of his mother to help Ukrainian schoolchildren and teachers.

“My mother would be happy. I’m sorry, but I have nothing more. Glory to Ukraine!” Aphazava said.

In addition, the new owner of the wedding ring and a Global Teacher Award coin returned them to Abkhazia as soon as the teacher transferred the money to a Polish organization that provides Ukrainian refugees.
