An old lady was wrapping her dog in a kerchief so that she was not afraid of the bombings

Maria Yukhymivna lives in Horenka to the northwest of Kyiv. This village suffered from heavy bombings, and shells fell right into her yard. The old lady was offered to evacuate, but there was no space for her dog Bonia, so she refused.
Together with her dog Maria Yukhymivna was hiding from shellings in a basement for many days. She was covering Bonnie’s ears so that nothing would get there: “She is like a child to me. And I felt so sorry for her, I can’t tell you how smart she is. When there were explosions, it was very scary: we heard the bombing, and she tucked her head into me when she saw me crying — started licking my tears.”
Now, Maria Yukhymivna plans to repair her ruined house and plant a garden. She really wants her native village to recover from the horrible attacks from Russia. She longs for her grandson Alexander, who is fighting against the Russians in the Donbas, and his wife and seven-year-old daughter Kira, who have gone abroad.
