Andriy Protsenko won a bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships, having survived the occupation in Kherson region

Andriy Protsenko, a high jumper representing Kherson region, won the bronze medal. It is Ukraine’s first medal at the World Championship and the first medal in Protsenko’s career at the World Championships.

Andriy Protsenko spent more than 40 days in Russian occupation in Kherson region. Under occupation, he could not prepare properly for the competition due to a lack of equipment. Despite this, he trained at home with self-made hurdles.
