Change of title for the opening film of the 75th Cannes Film Festival to support the Ukrainian people

French film director Michel Hazanavičius has changed the name of his film, which will open the 75th Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2022. His zombie comedy “Z (Comme Z)” will now be called “Cut!”

“Given the symbolic charge of the letter Z from the beginning of the war in Ukraine and at the request of Ukrainian filmmakers, I decided to change the title of my film,” Le Figaro quoted the saying of the Oscar-winning director.

“It may have been funny when we finished the film a few months ago, but it’s not funny anymore, and I can’t stand it. My film was made to bring joy, and under no circumstances would I want it to be directly or indirectly linked to this war,” added Michel Hazanavicius.

The film director of “Artist” and “Young Godard” stressed that by changing the name of his film, he wanted to express support for the Ukrainian people.
