Damage to the environment of Ukraine from the armed aggression of the Russian Federation exceeded $46 billion
The amount of damage to the Ukrainian environment from Russia’s armed aggression is already more than $ 46 billion — Ukraine will demand compensation for these losses from Russia. Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strelets stated this in a commentary for The Economist.
“The bulk of the calculated losses today is air pollution — $ 27 billion. In just ten months, more than 42 million tons of greenhouse gases have been released into the air as a result of the Russian invasion. This amount is comparable to the annual emissions of Bulgaria,” the minister stressed.
The main causes of emissions were forest fires and attacks by the Russian occupiers on energy infrastructure facilities.
