Dec. 31 Russian attack destroys unique stained glass compositions at Kyiv university

Russia’s mass missile attack on Ukraine on New Year’s Eve has left unique stained glass compositions at the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University destroyed and in need of significant restoration.

“A blast has damaged the modernist complex of the biology and geology faculties and knocked out unique stained-glass windows created in 1986 by Ukrainian artist Larysa Mishchenko,” author of Ukrainian Modernism project Dmytro Soloviov has reported.

According to Soloviov, only three out of 10 unique window compositions remain intact. Soloviov has initiated a council of restorers and stained glass artists to work on the restoration of the damaged art objects which constitute a part of Ukraine’s cultural heritage.
