European Commission is donating €14 million to purchase and transport school buses for Ukraine

The European Commission pledged to donate €14m to buy and transport school buses “to bring Ukrainian children safely to school.”

About 5.7 million school-age children in Ukraine have been affected by Russia’s unjustified aggression, which has also led to thousands of schools and educational facilities damaged or destroyed, the Commission said in the statement.

“Ukrainian children need school buses. Europe is now donating €14 million for this. And we need more. This is why the European Commission is organizing a solidarity campaign to donate school buses for Ukraine by early 2023. Together, we can help Ukrainian children — the future of Ukraine,” Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said.

Overall, 240 buses are already on the way from the EU and its Member States, the statement reads.
