European Parliament, in collaboration with the Babyn Yar Foundation, held a public hearing “Russia’s War Against Ukraine: A War of Ideologies and Cultures”
On Feb. 7, 2023, the European Parliament, in collaboration with the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, held a panel discussion on Russia’s war against Ukraine as an ideological and cultural war.
The participants discussed that there is currently a war not just of weapons but also of worldviews. Through the devastation of cultural heritage, the Kremlin wants to prove its biggest myth: that Ukraine is a fake state, part of the ideology of the Russian empire. Russia’s leadership denies the existence of an independent Ukrainian state and seeks to take away its right to exist. Russia’s primary goal is to eliminate everything that identifies Ukraine as an independent state and nation: language, history, culture, and, in the end, civil society.
