Europe’s largest salt production company Artemsil ceased operations due to the war

Europe’s largest salt company, Artemsil, shut down in April 2022 due to the war, which could lead to a shortage of domestic salt in Ukraine, as announced by the Acting Director of the state enterprise Artemsil Victor Yurin.

“The shelling is constant, the administrative building is partially destroyed. There were direct hits in the mines and warehouse. The production process is impossible. We will not endanger people. Moreover, most of the residents of Soledar, employees of Artemsil, have already been evacuated. Most of the employees of the administration, engineering, and technical workers are not on-site,” Yurin said.

He added that all final products were taken to retail stores in April 2022, and nothing has been possible to produce and transport since then. Thus, Ukrainian stores will have to face salt shortages and replace the domestic salt with the imported product.

According to him, consumers from Hungary, Poland, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Romania will also feel the consequences of the Artemsil shutdown.
