First full-service Ukrainian restaurant opens in Washington, D.C.

Ruta, the first full-service Ukrainian restaurant, is now open on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., Axios reports. The Chef of the restaurant is Dmytro Martseniuk — nicknamed “The Ambassador of Borscht” by his fellow chefs — who spent over a decade leading New York’s East Village famous Ukrainian restaurant — Veselka. “We hope to be a part of restaurant diplomacy. We want to be a place where you can learn about Ukrainian culture and food and see how beautiful it is,” Anna Volynets, a spokesperson for Ruta, said. For now, Ruta is a dinner-only restaurant but will expand hours for brunch soon. Also, it will have live music and events with Ukraine House.
