Four months of full-scale war in numbers

Four months of full-scale war in numbers

Four months ago, Russia started the full-scale war against Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, at 5 am, Russian missiles hit Ukrainian cities, and its military invaded the country. During these months, Ukrainians have shown unity, courage, and strength. The whole world got inspired by Ukraine’s resilience.

But Russia is a cruel aggressor and wages war by brutal methods. Every day its troops destroy Ukrainian cities, kill the Ukrainian citizens, target cultural monuments and schools, and ruin the Ukrainian economy.

It is a war of very heavy and painful losses for Ukraine. At the same time, this is the war of freedom as Ukraine on the battlefield is defending the peace of Europe and the world. That’s why the world must help Ukraine defeat Russia and then rebuild Ukraine together.

Together with our friends from “Ukraine Shortly,” we share with you the numbers of losses Russia has inflicted on Ukraine during the four months of the war.

Destroyed educational institutions

2,028 education institutions have suffered bombing and shelling and 209 of them have been destroyed completely as of June 24, 2022,, according to the website “Education in emergency” developed by the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. The Russian troops destroy schools and universities, kindergartens, and orphanages.

Destroyed health facilities

628 Ukrainian medical centers were damaged, and another 118 health facilities have been destroyed in Russian attacks as of June 22, 2022. It was stated by Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko during a speech at the “Kongres 590” in Poland. The Russian troops destroy healthcare institutions: hospitals, maternity wards, and outpatient clinics.

Destroyed cultural heritage monuments

There have already been 388 episodes of Russian war crimes against Ukraine’s cultural heritage and cultural institutions as of June 11, 2022, as announced by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tkachenko. And unfortunately, this number continues to grow. The Russian troops destroy monuments, landscapes, books, works of art, artifacts, architecture, museums, and theaters.

Territories under temporary occupation

“About 20% of Ukraine is under the control of the occupiers. It means that Russian troops occupy some 48,000 square miles of Ukrainian territory,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, addressing lawmakers in Luxembourg on 2 June.

Thousands of people live under occupation and suffer from the crimes of Russian troops.

Frontline length

The front is 2,450 km wide, of which 1,135 km are under active combat operations, as of June 12, 2022, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi. However, despite this, as he noted, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have launched counteroffensives in certain directions.

Mined territory

Around 160,000 square kilometers of the Ukrainian territory need to be examined for explosives. It was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar on her official account.

National Mine Action Authority set up under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is already operating and coordinating communication between all government agencies and international mine clearance organizations.

Ukraine is one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world because of Russian troops. They even mine children’s toys.
