Frozen Russian assets should pay for Ukraine’s $500 billion reconstruction — Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine
Speaking to global political and business leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: “I invite you to take part — with more than $500 billion — in the need to rebuild Ukraine’s cities and industries, which he said could be “fast, efficient and high quality.”
He also called for “new precedents” to support all countries seeking peace in the world. “[Russian] assets have to be seized or frozen and allocated to a special fund to help all those affected by the war,” Zelenskyy said.
“If the aggressor loses everything, then it deprives him of his motivation to start a war,” he added.
Zelenskyy said that the new precedent could be extended to any country invaded by another. “My proposals are designed to counter hunger, poverty, despair, and chaos,” he stated.
