Germany is going to face a shortage of mustard due to the Russian war in Ukraine
From the second half of 2022, Germany, the country with one of the highest mustard consumption in the world, is facing a shortage of mustard due to a lack of mustard seeds for its production. The shortage is caused by Russia’s war in Ukraine, as these two countries account for a total of 80% of Germany’s mustard seed imports. This opinion was expressed by Markus Weck, CEO of the German food industry association Kulinaria Germany. German mustard producers have already been forced to reduce mustard production and raise prices for their products. In the coming weeks and months, the shortage will increase — up to complete supply disruptions, the Kulinaria CEO assured.
