How does the uniqueness of Ukrainian culture and history help the country at Eurovision?

Eurovision 2022 Grand Final will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in the Italian city of Turin. Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra are bookmakers’ favorites to win with their track “Stefania.” The song has already impressed the European listeners, and even the song contest participants, alongside Kalush, perform “Stefania” backstage.

In their song, the band combines traditional Ukrainian folklore and new, modern contemporary hip-hop and rap — all mixed into one cocktail. For their Eurovision performance, the band wore traditional Ukrainian clothes. The leader of the band, Oleh Psiuk, will be wearing an authentic festive outfit from the 20th century from the Bukovyna region.

The very use of Ukrainian cultural and historical elements in their performances has always brought success to Ukrainian participants in the contest. Read about them in our selection.
