How parliaments worldwide unite around Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, parliamentarians from partner countries around the world have expressed their support for Ukraine and paid visits in solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Here are some of the key visits of foreign parliaments representatives to Ukraine:

  • visit of speakers of the parliaments of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, which resulted in signing a joint statement to combine efforts to end the Russian aggression and restore security in Europe;

  • visit of the delegation of the European Parliament and members of the national parliaments of the EU member states, during which they discussed Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine;

  • visit of the Speaker of the Czech Republic Senate Milos Vystrcil and the Marshal of the Senate of Poland Tomasz Grodzki — they visited Borodyanka, Bucha, and Irpin and reaffirmed the strong support of the Ukrainian people by their countries;

  • visit of the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili to discuss the issue of imposing sanctions on Russia by Georgia;

  • visit of speakers of the parliaments of Romania, Northern Macedonia, and Switzerland — the speakers of the parliaments assured Ukraine of the imposition of appropriate sanctions against Russia and the support of Ukrainian refugees in their countries.

Speakers and members of parliaments of other foreign countries (USA; Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria; Sweden) have repeatedly expressed their support for Ukraine and discussed further sanctions against Russia and various types of assistance to Ukraine by telephone and online calls with the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk.
