“I stay in Kharkiv until we win”was the last message young teacher and volunteer Julia Zdanowska

21-year old Julia Zdanowska was a true prodigy. In 2017 she competed with students from 44 countries at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad and won a silver medal for Ukraine. She graduated with a computer science degree from the best University in Ukraine and could work for any tech giant. But she chose to follow her dream of being a math teacher and inspire children with math, not scare them. That is how she became a part of the Teach for Ukraine project and had been teaching computer science at school in the Dnipropetrovsk region for the last six months.

The war has started, and Julia stayed in her home city Kharkiv at the hardest moments. The last message from Julia in the Telegram was: “Thank you, but I will stay in Kharkiv until victory.” A courageous young girl was missing for 4 days until horrible news came. She was killed by the Russian missile in Kharkiv but believed in Ukraine’s victory until her last breath.
