“I support the establishment of a special international tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression and the use of Russia’s frozen assets to rebuild Ukraine”

In his speech at the European Parliament, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda stated that the West is paying a heavy price for the unlearned lessons of World War Two.

“The resounding victory over the totalitarian Nazi regime left the crimes of the totalitarian Soviet regime unidentified and undenounced. It is precisely such silences that allowed the organizers of war crimes, ethnic cleansing and other crimes against humanity to be glorified in the Soviet Union, and later in Russia,” stated Lithuanian President.

“The distorted memory of the Second World War eventually became a political instrument, not only in Russia but also beyond its borders, to justify the crimes committed today,” he added.

The President of Lithuania stated unexposed evil kept in silence for years not only threatens fundamental European values but also prevents the Russian people from confronting their past.

“We must therefore break this cycle of lies, glorification of criminals and blatant aggression before it crushes us all,” added Nausėda.
