“I wrote our contacts on Vira’s body in case something happens to us, and someone picks her up”: How Ukrainian parents try to save their children
The other day, the Internet community was moved by the story of little Vira’s mother Sasha. On her Instagram page, she posted a photo of her daughter’s back with her parents’ contacts written on it.
“In the picture, you can see Vira’s back on the first day of the war. I was writing it with my hands shaking. But what can I say? You know yourself what it’s like to wake up to the sounds of explosions heard for miles around. During these first hours, I was flabbergasted, just like you.
I wrote our contacts on Vira’s body in case something happens to us, and someone picks up the surviving child. Or, she might have got lost, which could have happened only if I had passed out. At that moment, I even had a crazy thought “Why didn’t I put a tattoo with the information on her?”
Even though we are safe now, I still can’t make myself take out of her jumpsuit the piece of paper laminated with sellotape which you can see in the second picture,” Sasha wrote.
