IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi calls to take action to protect the plant occupied by Russians

After two recent landmine explosions near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi warned about the risk to nuclear safety and security amid signs of continued military activity in the southern region of Ukraine. The Zaporizhizhia NPP — the biggest nuclear power plant in Europe — has been under Russian occupation since the beginning of the full-scale war.

“We are living on borrowed time when it comes to nuclear safety and security at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Unless we take action to protect the plant, our luck will sooner or later run out, with potentially severe consequences for human health and the environment,” Grossi stated.
