On March 15, 2022, Prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia arrived in Kyiv to express their solidarity with Ukraine as Russia continued its assault on the capital city of Ukraine. The leaders met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. Ahead of the visit Polish Prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed: “Europe must guarantee Ukraine’s independence.” Jaroslaw Kaczynski, deputy PM and leader of Poland’s ruling PiS party, who also visited Kyiv called for an international peacekeeping mission to be sent to Ukraine and thus given the means to defend itself. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said in a tweet: “The aim of the visit is to express the European Union’s unequivocal support for Ukraine and its freedom and independence.”
