Jeff Koons’ Balloon Monkey sold at auction for $ 11.5 million, raised funds to be directed to humanitarian aid for Ukraine

On June 28, 2022, Jeff Koons’ seminal sculpture Balloon Monkey (Magenta) (2006-2013) was sold at Christie’s auction. The sculpture belonged to Ukrainian businessman Viktor Pinchuk and his wife, Olena. Jeff Koons supported the initiative and expressed hope that this initiative would draw attention to the need to help and support the Ukrainian people in a full-scale war.

All raised funds — $ 11.5 million — will be directed to humanitarian aid for Ukraine. In particular, the proceeds from the sale will be used to help soldiers and civilians gravely wounded by war who urgently require prosthetics, medical treatment, and rehabilitation to recover as much quality of life as possible.
