Latvia to donate cars confiscated from drivers to Ukraine

Latvian Saeima adopted urgent amendments to the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians. They provide for the possibility of transferring the state-owned vehicles free of charge to the Ukrainian government — for general support to Ukrainian society, the official statement reads.
“Currently, the vehicles confiscated from intoxicated drivers are sold, recycled, or disassembled for spare parts; however, in light of current circumstances, they could be used to support the Ukrainian people,” noted Raimonds Bergmanis, Chair of the Defence, Interior and Corruption Prevention Committee of the Saeima.
According to the statement, it is planned to organize the process of vehicle transfer through the association, which cooperates with the Ukrainian government and has received specific requests for assistance, expressed in the annotation of the law.
