Mariupol defender became a widow three days after marrying a fellow soldier in Mariupol’s Azovstal steelworks

A member of the Ukrainian National Guard who was holding out in Mariupol’s Azovstal steelworks has reportedly been killed just three days after marrying a fellow soldier.

“Mariupol defender Valeria Karpylenko — nicknamed “Nava” — became a bride, wife, and widow at Azovstal,” the Ukrainian National Guard wrote.

“On May 5, 2022, Ukrainian border guard Andrii — nicknamed “Beard” — and a girl from Azov got married, and he died three days later.

Along with the post were photos of the couple getting married in their uniforms as well as before the war.

“You have been my lawful husband for three days. And for all eternity, you are my love,” Valeria Karpylenko wrote.
