Mykolaiv celebrates its 233 anniversary amid constant Russian shelling

This weekend, the south-Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv is celebrating its 233rd anniversary. Mykolaiv officially marks its birthday on the second Sunday of September. But usually, festivities take place on Saturday and Sunday. Every year, the citizens celebrate the anniversary loudly and cheerfully. However, this year’s holiday will be different, the mayor said.

In 2022, Mykolaiv City Day will be celebrated online. There will be no celebrations, concerts, or fireworks because of the constant shelling by Russian forces. During the last six months of the full-scale Russian invasion, there was hardly a day when Russian troops did not shell the city. Thanks to the Ukrainian military, local authorities, and citizens, the Russians never managed to capture Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv region.
Mykolaiv is a hero city! Have a peaceful and happy anniversary, Mykolaiv!
