Natural resource restoration should be included in Ukraine’s reconstruction plan
Russian aggression against Ukraine, in addition to enormous human suffering and losses, has caused environmental damage; therefore, repairing natural resources must be part of the country’s post-war recovery. European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, stated this in Brussels during a press conference following a meeting of the EU Council of Ministers on the Environment, Ukrinform reports.
“I’d like to draw attention to the Polish report provided at the meeting on the damage inflicted by the Russian invasion of the Carpathian region. Apart from the unacceptably high human cost of this invasion, the natural ecosystem is also suffering as a result of Russian aggression. It will be critical to ensure that nature restoration is included in Ukraine’s recovery package, and the EU LIFE initiative will play an essential role in this regard,” stated Sinkevičius.
