Nobel Peace Laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk received the award in Oslo

The Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony took place in Oslo City Hall on December 10, 2022. Nobel Peace Laureate and Ukrainian activist Oleksandra Matviichuk received the award.
“We are receiving the Nobel Peace Prize during the war started by Russia,” stated Oleksandra Matviichuk during her Nobel Lecture in Oslo.
She noted that the people of Ukraine want peace more than anyone else in the world. “But peace cannot be reached by a country under attack laying down its arms. This would not be peace but occupation,” added Oleksandra Matviichuk.
“In this war, we are fighting for freedom in every meaning of the word. And for it, we are paying the highest possible price,” Nobel Peace Laureate noted.
Oleksandra Matviichuk is a director of Ukraine’s Centre for Civil Liberties. The organization received the award for protecting the fundamental rights of citizens.
