Odesa citizens painted 1500 flags on the buildings to show that Odesa is a Ukrainian city that does not welcome uninvited guests

Together with communal workers, more than 1,000 volunteers used more than 500 liters of paint and a thousand cans to draw more than 1,500 flags all around the city.

The fact that the yellow and blue flags began to disappear en masse from the houses prompted the people of Odessa to take such a step.

Local authorities say there might be two reasons why flags disappear: “In Odessa, flags became in short supply: the existing ones were sold out instantly, and many new ones were urgently sewn because almost all city inhabitants wanted to have their own. Public utilities have encountered a problem with this. The flags they hung on their houses every morning have simply disappeared during the day, and by evening, hundreds of flags were not counted in the city.” Another reason may lie in the saboteurs’ who remove the flags.

Locals decided that if it was very easy to remove the flag, it would be impossible to snatch the flag painted on the wall. Hundreds of people joined in, and the city supported the initiative. Now there are flags on every building in Odesa.
