Older people account for a third of Ukraine’s war victims

A UN report showed that older people have suffered and died at a disproportionately high rate since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Reuters reports. As stated in the report, older people were hit hard by power outages due to Russian attacks on critical infrastructure in 2022. Many of them were trapped in their upstairs apartments when their elevators broke down. Others had to be evacuated in haste, sometimes in wheelbarrows, because there was no time to fetch their mobility devices.
