Over five million people have fled Ukraine since the invasion began

Since the Russian invasion began, more than five million people have fled Ukraine — the U.N. refugee agency.

According to UNHCR, 5,085,360 people left Ukraine between February 24, 2022, and April 20, 2022, and 1,025,500 Ukrainians returned to Ukraine in the same period.

The data of arrivals in Schengen countries (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) bordering Ukraine only represents border crossings into that country; it is estimated that a large number of people have moved onwards to other EU countries.

2,847,540 Ukrainians crossed the border into Poland, 763,769 — to Romania, 563,266 crossed the border with Russia, 476,213 entered Hungary, 428,577 — to the Republic of Moldova, 346,175 — to Slovakia.
