PACE voted for excluding Russia from the Council of Europe. No one opposed
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe unanimously voted for Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe. 216 delegates voted for the decision, 0 voted against, three abstained. During the consideration of the resolution, it was reported that Russia had already applied to withdraw its membership. “But this does not stop our plans, does not interrupt the procedure,” the PACE President commented on the attempt. The Assembly is deeply disturbed by evidence of grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law by the Russian Federation, including attacks against civilian targets and humanitarian corridors, “indiscriminate use of artillery, missiles, and bombing” as well as hostage-taking. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe will make a final decision on Russia’s exclusion from the organization.
