Polish newspaper “Gazeta Wyborcza” named Serhii Zahadan “Person of the Year 2022”

Kharkiv writer, poet, activist, and volunteer Serhii Zhadan was named the Person of the Year by the popular Polish newspaper “Gazeta Wyborcza.”
“He did not leave Kharkiv, although the Russians are brutally bombing the city. Instead, he did what writers intended to do during the war: lifting people’s spirits, calming their hearts, and organizing concerts at the Kharkiv Metro. At the same time, he protects Ukrainian culture from Russia,” the newspaper emphasizes.
“Thanks to Gazeta Wyborcza for the title of Person of the Year. Although I understand perfectly all the conventionality of this definition — today all Ukrainians who fight for their country, who work for it, could be entitled to the People of the Year, people with a capital letter. It is an honor and happiness to live next to them at the same time and in the same country,” Zhadan commented.
