President Gitanas Nausėda addressed the Verkhovna Rada and the people of Ukraine in Kyiv

On Thursday, July 28, 2022, as Ukraine celebrated its first-ever Day of Statehood, President Gitanas Nausėda addressed the Verkhovna Rada and the people of Ukraine in Kyiv.

The President said he had come to the capital of free and independent Ukraine to thank the Ukrainian people for defending their country — and democratic Europe — so forcefully.

“Lithuania will help Ukraine to achieve victory in this war. We are fully aware of the threat posed by Russia’s imperial ambitions to the security of the entire region,” stressed Gitanas Nausėda.

During a joint press conference with the Lithuanian President in Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, recalled that Lithuania was one of the first to provide Ukraine with significant defense support when the full-scale Russian invasion started.

“I have already mentioned this more than once and I am proud to repeat that Ukraine received the first Stingers from our Lithuanian friends,” he said and thanked Lithuania for the support.
