Russia confirmed its warship “Moskva” has sunk. It was hit by Ukrainian missiles

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed “Moskva,” the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, had sunk.

Operational Command South of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on April 14, 2022, that the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s cruiser Moskva was significantly damaged after being hit by a Ukrainian Neptune anti-ship missile system. Other units of the ship’s group tried to help, but, a storm and a powerful explosion of ammunition overturned the cruiser, and it began to sink in the Black Sea, the command said.

Russia denies the ship was hit with missiles, stating that the blaze was caused by the explosion of the warship’s ammunition. According to the Russian ministry, Moskva was being towed to port when “stormy seas” caused it to sink.

The 510-crew missile cruiser was Russia’s military power symbol, leading its naval assault on Ukraine.
