“Russia has nothing in its history but seizing the nations which were unable to resist during colonization” Poet and dissident Ihor Kalynets says
82-year-old poet, dissident, and political prisoner Ihor Kalynets remembers well an inhuman face of the Soviet machine which Russia is still trying to resurrect. In 1972, the artist received a terrible sentence – six years in a concentration camp and three years in exile. The main reason for imprisonment of Kalynets was poetry.
What is the poet’s opinion of Russia?
“Russia is nothing for me. I feel sorry for Russia which has nothing to fill its void. That is why it will be an eternal enemy of that part of its former empire which inherits history.”
