“Russia is using information manipulation and interference as a crucial instrument in its war of aggression against Ukraine”
The EU will launch a new platform to counter disinformation campaigns by Russia and China, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said on Feb. 7, 2023. According to him, all EU delegations will be equipped with experts on countering disinformation in many parts of the world in order “to make their voice be heard better.”
Borrell emphasized that in recent years Russia’s spending to boost its ability to create and disseminate so-called fake news to further its agenda has massively outpaced European investments to counter such interference.
“Information oils the engine of democracy. Russia is using information manipulation and interference as a crucial instrument in its war of aggression against Ukraine. We have plenty of evidence — over 15,000 cases collected and published by EU East Stratcom Task Force, to expose and raise awareness,” Borrell said on Twitter.
