“Russia is using the grain blockade as a weapon of war, everyone should be aware of that”
The Russian Federation deliberately strikes at grain depots in Ukraine, steals Ukrainian grain from occupied territories, and uses the blockade of Ukraine’s seaports as an instrument of war and provokes global famine, said Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in the interview with Journal du Dimanche.
“The European Union does not ban Ukrainian grain exports or Russian grain or fertilizer exports. But who bombs the grain silos, who destroys the crops or steals them? Is it the EU or Russia? Who is blocking Ukrainian ports with their warships, the EU or Russia? That there are difficulties in ensuring cargo ships in the Black Sea, I agree and we must try to solve this problem. But I repeat, Russia is using the grain blockade as a weapon of war, everyone should be aware of that. And if the two great sources of grains and oilseeds cannot leave Ukrainian ports, yes, there will be famines in the world,” said Borrell.
