Russian invaders destroy unique Kinburn Spit, damaging up to 4 million trees
During the year of the full-scale Russian invasion, ecologists recorded 131 fires on the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit, Mykolaiv region, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine reports.
The fires affected more than 5,000 hectares of the spit’s territory, up to 4 million trees were damaged. “Most of the fires were repeated and hit the same area several times. It will only be possible to calculate the final damage caused by the fires after the territory is de-occupied,” the Ministry says.
To date, 20% of the natural reserve fund was damaged due to the Russian war.
