“Russian society does not understand the consequences of its actions like the losers of the Second World War, or vice versa – it is an encouragement to them that war pays off.”

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said at the Lennart Meri Conference in Tallinn that the prerequisite for lasting peace was that Russia understood its own mistakes.

“After World War II, there were the Nuremberg and Tokyo Tribunals, where war crimes were brought to light and criminals were punished. However, there has been no Moscow tribunal, and Russian society does not understand the consequences of its actions like the losers of the Second World War, or vice versa – it is an encouragement to them that war pays off,” Kallas said. Kallas added that holding Russia accountable for its crimes would be the only way to stop Russian ongoing cycle of aggression.
