Russians have destroyed Ukraine’s residential buildings worth $31 billion

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the total amount of direct documented infrastructure damages based only on public sources has reached over $94 billion or over UAH 2.8 trillion, according to the estimates of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) Institute as of May 10, 2022.
As a result of hostilities, some 35.2 million square meters of housing stock were destroyed or damaged due to the war in Ukraine. The total amount of damage to residential buildings is $31 billion. Just in one week, the figure increased by almost $1.3 billion. Cities such as Mariupol, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Rubizhne suffered the most from the destruction of the housing stock. Mariupol’s damages amount to almost $10 billion, Kharkiv’s — more than $7 billion, and Chernihiv’s — more than $4 billion.
