Russia’s nuclear rhetoric aims to intimidate countries that support Ukraine. It’s not worth getting distracted by it

Putin’s statements about the placement of nuclear weapons in Belarus are not worth getting distracted by them because the protection of the NATO countries against the threat of such weapons is guaranteed regardless of its location, stated Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Arvydas Anušauskas.
According to Anušauskas, Putin’s statements only show his fears about the strengthening of NATO forces on the eastern flank. “The defense of a NATO country against the threat of nuclear weapons is guaranteed regardless of whether that weaponry is deployed to the west of our borders (Kaliningrad region) or to the east (Belarus) or to the north (Leningrad region). The USA also views this move by Putin very moderately — it is not going to change any of its nuclear deterrence plans,” Anušauskas claimed.
