Skovoroda is shown in the statue holding a book in his hands and walking with a crutch. The sculpture faces Ukraine’s geographic orientation, which also makes a symbolic component of the project.
Mark Rhodes, an American artist, created the sculpture. He expressed his admiration for the Ukrainian people’s current struggle for freedom and identity in a statement to the agency.
The artist said, “Even though I am not a Ukrainian by birth, I can be one by choice.”
