“Stop killing us at first. Then we can talk about the next steps. To make a peace, you must be alive at least”

A Russian woman and a Ukrainian woman have been carrying the cross together during a Good Friday procession in the Vatican presided over by the pontiff. According to the Vatican, such a step symbolizes “peace” between these countries.
The Vatican’s idea was widely criticized by Ukrainians. The Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, said the idea was unacceptable. “Stop killing us at first. Then we can talk about the next steps. To make peace, you must be alive at least,” he said. Ukrainian Ambassador to the Holy See Andrii Yurash blasted the choice as well. But the Vatican decided to do it anyway.
Russia is a country that unleashed unprovoked full-scale war in Ukraine. And due to the survey, most Russians support the war. That is why Ukraine considers the Vatican’s steps unacceptable.
