Sweden to boost support for Ukraine, providing $47 million in military assistance

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson promised a new aid package to Kyiv during a press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Stockholm on Monday, August 29, 2022.

The package includes military aid worth 500 million crowns ($46.8 million) and the same amount for the reconstruction of Ukraine. “Sweden will continue to be a close friend and support Ukraine,” Andersson said.

Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde, who was also present at the press conference, added: “We do not know how long Russia’s war will last, but Sweden is ready to provide long-term support to Ukraine.”

Kuleba thanked Sweden for its support since Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in late February, adding that the best way to save Ukrainian lives is to supply it with weapons such as howitzers and shells.

“As long as the war continues, we will be asking for more weapons,” Kuleba said at the press conference.
