The 11-year-old boy who crossed the Slovak border on his own has been reunited with his family: Hassan’s Story

Hassan’s risky adventure has ended happily. Shortly after his arrival in Slovakia, he was reunited with his family. The Slovak police were so shocked and inspired by the story of the little refugee that they posted it on their Facebook page.

“It wasn’t the first time Hassan’s family has run away from war. Years ago they had to leave Syria. The father didn’t make it… But the family settled down in their mother’s homeland Ukraine. A few years passed and they had to flee for life again.

At first, three sisters traveled to visit their elder brother in Bratislava, where he studies. Their task was to make sure that 11-year-old Hassan could also come to Slovakia… Having found out that it was possible his mom sent him to the country on his own. She couldn’t go as their grandma has mobility problems.

Hassan spent more than a day on the train. He had his brother’s number written on his hand. Finally, he met his siblings in Bratislava, where they could start over. His journey has been reported worldwide.

The threat of Russian bombing convinced the mother to at least try to escape with the grandmother. They also took their little dog with them. After a very difficult journey on the evacuation train, they managed to do it on Monday.

The family is together again. The elder brother is only 20 years old, but he is the head of the family. They have been provided with all necessary documents, permits, and accommodation… They lost everything again, but this time the war didn’t take anyone away from them. They are together and that’s all that matters.”
