The New Babyn Yar: Russians have likely buried up to 9,000 Mariupol citizens in Mangush
Satellite images show a mass grave in Mangush, a village occupied by Russian troops, less than 20 km away from Mariupol. Up to 9,000 Mariupol citizens may be buried there.
An analogous satellite image of Bucha, where a mass grave containing 70 civilians has been found, suggests that the Russian occupiers may have buried between 3,000 and 9,000 Mariupol citizens in Manhush. The size of the mass grave in Manhush is 20 times that of the one in Bucha, according to the Maxar Technologies satellite image from April 9, 2022.
The Russians dug new trenches on the outskirts of Mariupol and filled them with bodies each day in April 2022. Mariupol City Council sources report that in such graves the bodies are placed one on top of the other.
Conservative estimates put the number of civilians killed by the Russian army in Mariupol at 22,000.
